To a Friend: Goodbye

I lost a good friend today.

All the years past by so quickly--so fast too, you were gone.

As I last held you, time stood still.  Slowly.  Painfully.  Life was receding away.  As it did, I thought of the poem: “Do not go gentle into that good night… Fight, fight!”   You will get better, we can win.  You can be with me and we will have more memories--everyone that you have touched!

I realized, however, my thoughts were too selfish.

As the minutes passed, I knew it was time.

Please go into that good night.  Surrender, bravely and with grace.  Understand that I tried my best to give you everything.  Take my thoughts and feelings. Forever know I will love you and always think of you.  As you ascend, go with all the memories we shared throughout the years.   Forever know, those who are loved, deeply and by many, will never really die.

You will live on forever.

Goodbye.
